Nepal is a very popular destination for adventure tourism, and the country is also home to a beautiful array of unique natural, cultural and historical attractions. Most tourists come to Nepal for mountaineering, trekking, canyoning, rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding and a host of other adventure activities.
These activities offer maximum adventure, but they also involve certain risks and potential dangers. While trekking in the Himalayas, you may face altitude sickness, sometimes natural disasters, landslides and other such risks.
Our trekking staff can handle most of these situations, but not all. Therefore, all travelers to Nepal should be adequately insured.
Nepal is considered a relatively safe country to travel to, but sometimes when you reach the higher regions of Nepal, you may experience a cold or some unforeseen event, such as high-altitude sickness, avalanches, landslides, etc., especially when trekking in the high Himalayas. Therefore, we urge you to obtain travel insurance and standard medical coverage. If you are travelling to the remote Himalayas, your travel insurance should cover helicopter rescue up to the highest trekking altitude. Most remote trekking areas do not have adequate medical facilities. Therefore, it may be necessary to be flown to a better location for treatment by helicopter or other means. Therefore,
In Nepal, the Himalayan Rescue Association and the Nepal Mountaineering Association manage part of the insurance in Kathmandu. Another organization called the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) provides insurance and rescue services. We have close contact with these organizations. However, sometimes, contact with these organizations is not sufficient. Therefore, we advise you to consult your embassy and international insurance providers after deciding to come to Nepal.
You should purchase travel insurance from your country that covers rescue and evacuation in addition to medical costs and then bring your policy details (policy number, contact phone, coverage) as rescue services will rarely come to your aid without a cash deposit or guarantee of payment in Kathmandu. If you are trekking with pure Sherpa Adventure, we arrange helicopter evacuation in case of emergencies such as altitude sickness, injuries during the expedition/trek/climb, or other health conditions.
Your safety and comfort are always our priority. 🙏
